Welcome to a Brand New Year!
Hello Fellow ATI Members!
Welcome to 2020 and to what looks to be an awesome year for our association! Our 2020 membership drive has just kicked off (hint hint), we have some exciting webinars coming up, we are continuing our new teleconference programs and our 2020 conference is in Cleveland, OH in August. With all of these exciting events upcoming, your ATI board members will be posting blog posts each month to keep you updated, to chat about items near and dear to their hearts, and to wax poetic as we all feel the need!
For those that don’t know me, I am Mike Davis and I am currently president of ATI, but not for long, because our AWESOME president elect Kristi McLaughlin will be taking over soon as president. I have been on the ATI Board since 2015 and have loved working with this organization that has worked so hard in advancing travel training and travel instruction over the years. I have been involved in the field of travel instruction for about 18 years and have loved every minute of it. I started out as a travel trainer, moved into a leadership role, and am now currently the Regional Director of Mobility Management for MTM.
One question I get quite a lot when I tell people my title is “what is mobility management?” So I wanted to talk a little bit about what mobility management is and how is travel training related to this area? Mobility Management is approach for managing and delivering coordinated transportation services to customers, including older adults, people with disabilities, and individuals with lower incomes. Mobility management focuses on meeting the needs of the customer by connecting a wide range of transportation options and service providers in a community to try to make a transportation experience as seamless as possible. This includes bus, train, paratransit, shared ride service, bike share, scooter share, car share, etc.
So how does travel training and travel instruction play into mobility management? Well, travel instructors and travel trainers are some of the most knowledgeable travel professionals in our respective communities. Who better to help those in need of accessing their community than us? We know the people we serve, we know the community and we know how the services in those communities.
So if you have any questions regarding ATI, mobility management, or anything else you think you may want to chat about, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at davismtd7@gmail.com. I love to wax poetic!
